Savitribai Phule (1831-1897) was a prominent Indian social reformer, educationist, and poet who played an instrumental role in women’s education and empowerment during the nineteenth century. She is regarded as the mother of Indian feminism and she is credited with founding the first girl’s school in Pune in Bhide Wada with her husband.
