Entering the Bodhisattva’s Embrace: SPP2025 Living In The Embrace of The Bodhisattvas (Part 1)

Upaya Zen Center's Dharma Podcast - Un podcast de Joan Halifax | Zen Buddhist Teacher Upaya Abbot

In this opening session of Spring Practice Period, Senseis Monshin, Shinzan, and Ryotan warmly welcome participants to explore “Living in the Embrace of the Bodhisattva Path.” Sensei Monshin begins by speaking to the ancient tradition of Ango as a container for transformation, inviting participants to “relax into our schedule… breathe, listen… and slowly accord with the schedule and with others.” Sensei Shinzan emphasizes returning to basics—being fully present—asking “What you going to practice? … to be present in this moment right now, right here. That’s what we are gonna practice.” Sensei Ryotan describes this journey as “self-sculpting,” where we discover that “there is a way in which everything is all right, just as it is.” Through quieting the mind, creating boundaries from everyday distractions, and engaging with bodhisattva archetypes, the teachers establish a sanctuary for practitioners to touch what lies beneath the “narrow tightness” of ordinary life.
