Penny Dreadful Rewatch Episode 1 "Night Work" by TV Podcast Industries

As we prepare for the launch of Penny Dreadful City of Angels we take a look back at Penny Dreadful Season 1 in our rewatch podcast. This time, along with special guest co-host Rey, from Into The Knight THE Moon Knight Podcast, we take a look at the first episode of season one "Night Work".

Directed by J.A. Bayona who also directs episode 2 he’s probably best known for his horror movie “The Orphanage” and Jurrasic Park: Fallen Kingdom. He’s already scheduled to direct the first two episodes of The Lord of The Rings TV Series on Amazon Prime.



The series Executive Producer is American Beauty and James Bond director Sam Mendes. He recently won a number of Oscars for his latest period film 1917.



Written by showrunner John Logan who previously worked with Sam Mendes  when he wrote the script for the James Bond movies Spectre and Skyfall. Interestingly he also wrote Star Trek Nemesis which is directly connected to the other show we’re covering on TVPI Star Trek Picard.



Episode Summary : London 1891. Vanessa Ives and her colleague, renowned explorer Sir Malcolm Murray, recruit marksman Ethan Chandler to undertake a job with them. They try to recover Sir Malcom’s daughter from a group of vampires. They're not successful, but do recover an evil-looking creature which is covered in Egyptian hieroglyphs. Sir Malcolm enlists the help of foppish Egyptologist, Mr. Lyle, to decipher the hieroglyphs and a young scientist, Victor Frankenstein, to find any other clues in the gruesome body. Meanwhile, the police are investigating the grisley murder of a young mother and daughter who have been torn apart. (via garykmcd on IMDB.com)
