While battling a new weapon of The Hand, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) and Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) track down a dying member of the group who tells them to return to New York to continue their fight. Meanwhile with the help of Bobby Fish (Ron Cephas Jones) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) is being released from Seagate Prison. His first stop is to go and get some coffee with Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). While there, N.Y.P.D. detective Misty Knight (Simone Missick) shares her investigation into some suspicious deaths of young men in Harlem.
Elsewhere as Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) arrives home from another night out on the whiskey a woman calls to her broken door to ask her to find her missing husband. Initially expecting it’s another cheating husband Jessica gets a call from a mysteriously disguised voice telling her not to take the case. On the other side of the city Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is struggling with his choice to give up being Daredevil. He’s focusing on pro bono legal work to protect the innocents of the city.
After winning a case which left a young man in a wheelchair Matt reconnects with Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). There’s also a mysterious other player in town with a plan to make the city of New York fall. She brings forward her plan with the aide of Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho) and a reanimated Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung). As each of the Defenders goes about their tasks in the city their lives are interrupted by a huge city wide earthquake.
