Christianity, depending on the culture it’s sitting in, can be either liberal or conservative in its appearance. That’s the way it ought to be. If Christianity is revealed truth from God, then it doesn’t arise out of one side of the spectrum or the other. If you come to the Bible saying, “Is this left or right or sort of halfway in between?” you’ll always be disappointed because it’s not from down here. Being a male and being a female are overlapping but distinguishable ways of being human. They’re not identical. Therefore, there are roles. There are distinct obligations and gifts and callings that belong to women and belong to men. We learn three things from today’s passage: there are roles, why there are roles, and what those roles are. This sermon was preached by Rev. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on September 29, 1991. Series "Marriage". Scripture: Ephesians 5:22-33.
