Minute 030: Bulletin: Kaplan Has Dandruff

“Look who’s here!” says Roger, holding up a photograph. “Who? Where?” asks Roger’s mother, startled.  Roger looks at a picture of six men, standing in front of a University doorway. Mr. Townsend is one of the men in the group.  “Our friend, who’s assembling the General Assembly this afternoon,” replies Roger.  “Roger, I think we should go,” says his mother.  “Don’t be nervous,” says Roger.  “I’m not nervous,” replies his mother, “I’ll be late for the bridge club.” “Good,” says Roger. “You’ll lose less than usual.” Thornhill presses the call button for the maid, next to the bed. He then walks into the bathroom and looks around. He finds a brush and a comb, then puts them back on a shelf.  “Bulletin,” says Roger. “Kaplan has dandruff.” “In that case, I think we should leave,” says Roger’s mother. The door buzzes.  “Too late,” says Roger. He walks to the door and opens it. The housekeeper stands outside. “You rang for me, sir?” asks the housekeeper. “Yes,” says Roger. “Come in a moment.” The housekeeper steps into the room. “What’s your name?” asks Roger. “Elsie, sir,” replies Elsie.  “Elsie,” says Roger, “Do you know who I am?”  “Sure,” says Elsie, “You’re Mister Kaplan.” “When did – – when did you first see me?” asks Roger. “Outside the door,” says Elsie, pointing at the door. Roger looks puzzled. “Out in the hall, a couple of minutes ago!” explains Elsie. “Don’t you remember?”
