In this episode, I have an invigorating conversation with a dear friend and colleague, Ms. Bianca Gomez. Bianca & I attended graduate school together at the University of Wisconsin-Madison a few years ago; while in Madison, Bianca became involved with Freedom, Inc - a community-based organization that organizes for social, political, and educational advocacy for oppressed and marginalized groups. One of Freedom Inc's biggest and most recent wins was convincing the local school board in Madison to decentralize police presence within the Madison Metro School District (MMSD). Bianca credits the leadership of middle & high school students who participated in grassroots-level activism as a major factor in MMSD becoming a police-free school district.
