Dr Howard Murad is the man behind the skincare brand Murad known for its high performance, no-nonsense, problem-solving skincare. During a visit to London the LA-based dermatologist and I met to speak about the new and unexpected factors affecting the way in which we age. He has been dubbed 'The Father of Internal Skincare' and his knowledge is vast, but in this conversation with talk about why it's so crucially important to take a 360 approach not just to ageing, but to our lifestyles too. Dr Murad talked to me about his Eyes Up Campaign and how it's important we find a balance between how much we're online for the sake of our health as well as how we all fall into the habit of compromising and editing ourselves in a way that can impact our happiness - and our health. Dr Murad has been treating patients for over 50 years so he knows what people want, he knows what works and his advice is like pure gold bullion. You'll also be able to hear the fab Zoe Shaw, who you'll know if you watch Murad's presentations on QVC, who joined us for the chat too.
MY top 3 picks for murad problem-solving skincareMurad Eye Lift Firming Treatment, £49.50.* My eyes can get really puffy when I'm stressed and/or tired - I blame staring at computers and wearing contact lenses - and when this eye treatment launched last year I was seriously impressed by the results. It's very simple to use too - just a couple of pumps on the eye patches, apply under the eyes and wait... It instantly calmed that feeling of 'puff' around my eyes and my eyes looked fresher immediately after use. I try to use this once a week and as well as the soothing effect on my eyes, it also gives me a reason to sit down for 15 minutes.
Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield SPF30, £56.* I have no problem with a product that does as much as this one... I sometimes feel as though I'm layering too much on my skin so the fact this one cream does the job of five other products is a win/win for me. On application there's an instant 'blurring' or skin that seamlessly covers imperfections, such as pores, but it also hydrates, primes and has a broad spectrum SPF so your skin is protected throughout the day. Add to the mix a savvy blend of anti-ageing ingredients that stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and well, I'm sold.
Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser, £35. I've only recently come around to the brilliance of acids and their ability to slough and refine skin without any scrubbing or physical 'bits' scratching at you thanks to Nadine Baggott, but this cleanser is testament to how efficient they are in skincare. I find it really efficient and my skin feels incredibly clean, soft and smooth to the touch after I've used it, which I think can't be anything but a brilliant surface on which to apply my skincare. I use it as my second cleanse at night before using my powerful anti-ageing skincare products.
