Welcome Back Coachable Family! Today I break down the levels of self-mastery and what it takes to truly be successful in anything in life, and what are some of those pitfalls that continually trip us up. This is going to be really illuminating for some of you that find yourself continually starting things and never making the progress or getting the results that you really want. [2:00] Self-Mastery and Success.  “Our culture tells us that if we understand something, we should be able to do it.” “Repetition is the mother of mastery.” “We tend to stay in our comfort zones of what we're naturally good at.” [7:00] Cognitive mastery “The first level of self-mastery or mastery of any skill begins with cognitive mastery. This is the intellectual understanding.” “Knowledge is not power applied Knowledge is”  “In this phase we’re excited and we're committed. We're like, yes, I'm going to do this thing. And we have cognitively mentally decided, and we understand intellectually, what it's going to take.” “Maybe it's going to be 30, 60, 90 days to create this habit. But here's the thing. You can only do what, you know, so naturally the more, you know, the more you can do”  [12:00] Repetition and emotional mastery “You have to feel it. And what you're going to feel here is resistance.” “The work doesn't start until you get uncomfortable. A lot of us want to stay in that    comfort.” “Repetition: continually, consistently doing something is when you're starting to develop emotional mastery over that thing. You no longer allow fear to dictate your choices or decisions, or your willingness to show up and do it.” “This is where you develop the discipline to do the thing in the face of discomfort.” “When you're learning a new skill, if we can apply an emotional consequence, good or bad, it will help us to remember and to recall it when we need it.” [20:00] Lifestyle to Identity  “This is the actual embodiment where it's not just a habit that you can learn in 30, 60, 90 days.” “This is who I am. Now, you embody it. You own it. It's in your psychology. It's in your physiology.” “Showing up consistently and doing the thing consistently actually pays off.” “Dare to care about something.. dare to want something so badly that you're willing to fail at it over and over and over again until you get it.” [30:00] Prevention vs Pain Relief “We live in a culture where we tend to not, you know, we don't invest in prevention.” “We invest in pain relief because when everything is good in your life, you're not motivated to do anything different when you've got the money in the bank.” “Look at where you are and think about where you've come from and the stretch of that journey that you've already co Connect with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thecoachablepodcast/ Connect with Tori on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachtorigordon/ Guess what?!
