Blockbusters help smash US holiday box office record

The entertainment industry is celebrating a record-setting start to the northern hemisphere summer movie season, with a bumper Memorial Day weekend box office total of an estimated US $326 million. It's been led by Disney's live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch and Tom Cruise's latest Mission Impossible movie. But more broadly, ticket sales are largely still below 2019 levels.
