The Sleep-Deprived Teen | POF162

Parenting Our Future - Un podcast de Robbin McManne

Only 22% of teens get the amount of sleep they need to be rested which is 8-10 hours. You might be thinking it’s because they are on screens too long but that’s not the case. The main reasons why they aren’t getting enough sleep is because their circadian rhythm shifts in the teen years that makes them naturally want to go to sleep later and wake up earlier (it’s not just YOUR teen!!). My guest, Lisa L. Lewis shares how sleep deprivation impacts teens in their ability to attain, retain, and retrieve information when they’re at school. There are other impacts to not getting enough sleep which impacts mental health. Lisa and I talk about the changes taking place in the teen brain, how school start times, if too early, drastically impact our teen's ability to learn, and how we can make sleep a priority for them.
