- New words - verb stem + に行きます(にいきます) - go to do It is a very useful expression which means 'go (in order to) do (something)'. It is very commonly used with the stem of the verb. よく映画を見に行きます。 yoku eiga o mi ni ikimasu. I often go to the movies. 彼は毎日川に泳ぎに行きます。 kare wa mainichigawa ni oyogi ni ikimasu.  He goes swimming in the river every day. 私は日本に勉強しに行きます。 watashi wa Nihon ni benkyōshi ni ikimasu. I am going to Japan to study. 私は街に誕生日プレゼントを買いに行きます。 watashi wa machi ni tanjōbi purezento o kai ni ikimasu.  I am going downtown to buy a birthday present. 私たちは今日日本料理を食べに行きます。 watashitachi wa kyō Nihon ryōri o tabe ni ikimasu.  We're going out for Japanese food tonight. 私は友達に会いに行きます。 watashi wa tomodachi ni ai ni ikimasu. I'm going to meet up with a friend. 私は国の家族に会いに帰ります。 watashi wa kuni no kazoku ni ai ni kuni e kaerimasu.  I go back to the country to see my family. 私は日本に勉強しに来ました。 watashi wa Nihon ni benkyōshi ni kimashita.
