EP 8 : Gender equality & LGBTQ+ rights in Islam - with Seyran ATEŞ - 🇬🇧

In this episode of JINS Podcast, I am very happy to have one of the most inspirational human beings I have encountered lately, another female imam who fights for women’s rights and LGBTQIA+ rights in Islam, her name is Seyran Ateş.📿 Seyran was born in Istanbul, Turkey, of a Turkish mother and a Kurdish father. She moved to West Berlin at the age of 6 with her traditionalist family. She left home when she was 17 years old to avoid an arranged marriage and she fled with her German boyfriend. She then became a lawyer and started fighting for women’s rights ; she basically devoted herself her whole life to helping Turkish-background women achieve their rights in Germany. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in 2005.🧎🏻‍♀️She opened the Ibn Ruschd-Goethe mosque in 2017, located in a church, leading the way as a woman imam. It is the only liberal mosque in Germany today. Obviously, she has received death threats and survived an attack.
