EP 15 : Body positivity, intersectional feminism & islam - with Leah VERNON - 🇬🇧

Today, on JINS, I'll be addressing the intersection of islam, feminism and… body positivity. This is why it is my great pleasure to welcome Leah Vernon aka Leah V. LeahV is an international Hijabi social media influencer, motivational speaker and content creator. She is a plus-size model, fashion blogger and body-positive activist. She wrote a memoir of her journey toward self-acceptance, called Unashamed: Musings of a Fat, Black Muslim. She wears a hijab and flashy colors. As a young Black girl, she never felt like she belonged, which led to low self-esteem and eating disorders. This is why today she is an educator, public speaker, lecturing widely around race relations, feminism/sexuality, Islam/religion, body-image, education, cultural sensitivity. Her content has garnered over a million views combined, and she’s been featured in hundreds of media platforms from the New York Times to Buzzfeed.
