In the latest episode of the IEA Podcast, Kieran Neild-Ali, Communications and Marketing Assistant at the IEA, sat down with Head of Cultural Affairs, Marc Glendening, to discuss the Frankfurt School- giving listeners a beginner's guide to an important canon of thought which has greatly influenced the culture war we see today. They explain the importance of the Frankfurter's influence on shifting Marxists away from classical Marxism to a holistic study of society and capitalism in the form of Critical Theory which argued capitalism doesn't just oppress people economically, but through culture. The ideas of the Frankfurt School meant Marxist revolutionaries would no longer work towards a single, violent uprising of the working class, but would start a slow take-over of society’s key cultural and political institutions from the inside by elite-level activists.
