Amigues!!! This week we had a conversation with Dr. Irvin Manuel Gonzalez who shares his journey as a first-generation choreographer and dance scholar in a field saturated by whiteness. He tells us all about how his career went from dancing with his aunt at a family party, to the Quebradita becoming the focus of his academic research. His dissertation, Dancing Quebradita: Transnational Belonging and Mexicanidades Across the U.S.-Mexico Border explores how the Mexican/Mexican-American social dance is tied to cultural identity.
