E12. Dancing Quebradita w/ Dr. Irvin Manuel Gonzalez

Fruta Fresca - Un podcast de Marginal Mediaworks - Les vendredis

Amigues!!! This week we had a conversation with Dr. Irvin Manuel Gonzalez who shares his journey as a first-generation choreographer and dance scholar in a field saturated by whiteness. He tells us all about how his career went from dancing with his aunt at a family party, to the Quebradita becoming the focus of his academic research. His dissertation, Dancing Quebradita: Transnational Belonging and Mexicanidades Across the U.S.-Mexico Border explores how the Mexican/Mexican-American social dance is tied to cultural identity. We also talk about his recent full-length piece "Nepantla" created by Primera Generacion Collective! Read more about Primera Generacion, recently featured in the LA Times.   Also make sure to follow us on instagram at: @igonz003 @primerageneraciondance  @frutafresca.podcast @soynalgona   Lastly, make sure to review and subscribe the podcast so you get notified when a new episode drops!   Produced by Marginal Mediaworks, Inc.
