Bones and Winiata of Camp Olney halt logging

Earth Matters - Un podcast de Megan Williams, Bec Horridge, Nicky Stott, Eiddwen Jeffery, Judith Peppard & Jacob Gamble. - Les dimanches

Five months ago  Bones and friends halted logging in Olney State forest with a blockade camp across the road.  Earth Matters visited this quiet camp in lush rainforest humming with gliders, goannas, black cockatoos and lyre-birds.  Bones knows that if the camp packs up the loggers will be back to cut the trees and  further fragment the forest. Thus Bones stays. Having twice survived stage 4 cancer  and now disabled, living in the forest for the trees and animals is where Bones wants to be. Winiata is there too, singing sublime and supporting as always.    Meanwhile other forest logging blockades are springing up in the Newry State Forest, NSW,  in the Tarkine, Tasmania and on the Errinundra plateau East Gippsland, Victoria. The  North East Forest Alliance is calling for an immediate 10% reduction in wood supply commitments to north-coast sawmillers from public forests  because of the widespread death of trees due to the Black Summer bushfires, as well as a freeze on any new commitments. Guests: Bones and WiniataMusic: Winiata Links: Forest Defence NSW | Facebook           Camp Olney | Facebook           Environmental Blockading in Australia and Around the World - Timeline 1974-1997 - The Commons (commonslibrary.org) Todays show No. 1293 was produced on the lands of the Darkinjung people by Bec Horridge.
