Every year SIPRI, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, will releases a report detailing the status of world military expenditure. The SIPRI Military Expenditure Database contains consistent time series on the military spending of countries from 1949 until today. It gives us a timeline of an increasingly militarized world. In this episode we have invited back Dr. Nan Tian from SIPRI to talk about how the world military expenditure has evolved since last time we spoke two years ago, in 2022. What has changed since then? In our previous conversation with Dr. Nan Tian, the Russia-Ukraine war was a highly potent topic. Dr. Nan Tian is a Senior Researcher and Acting Programme Director for the Military Expenditure and Arms Production Programme at SIPRI. He is responsible for monitoring and managing the SIPRI Military Expenditure Database.
