In this podcast, we take a look at some common everyday cultural misunderstandings. Following, you will find my notes, as I wrote them down. At the bottom, you'll find vocab and expressions from the lesson. Groceries – people shop more often here, food is healthier, bread goes bad very quickly,milk is completely different. Official pictures have no smile! Dress code seems more formal in general, fewer people wear t-shirts Buildings start at floor 0, the lobby, and then you go up starting at 1. L 2 3 4 5 in the States is 0 1 2 3 4 in France Cell phones – all incoming calls are free! (phone cards are still expensive though!) The tabac sells everything you would never expect to find there, such as phone cards and stamps Store hours are definitely a lot more limited here, but the stores with “better” hours are usually more expensive. Dryer sheets…? Some expressions and vocabulary from this podcast: “to jot down” = to write quickly without much thought, often something unimportant Ex. I jotted down my idea for dinner tomorrow night. “blows my mind” = amazes me Ex. This new TV blows my mind. “to burn through” = to use quickly Ex. I've burned through several books recently.
