What does the new COP28 climate deal really accomplish?

At the end of two weeks of intense negotiations at COP28, a new major climate deal has been reached. Supporters say it marks the beginning of the end of fossil fuels, but not all parties are happy. It does not call for phasing out fossil fuels, island nations complained it’s a death knell for them, and climate activists say the deal lets the fossil fuel industry off the hook.
