French court approves retirement age boost

France’s highest constitutional court has approved a pension reform plan that has triggered months of anger and discontent. The controversial bill – which will raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 – could be enacted as soon as this weekend, and the new law has already put French President Emmanuel Macron under immense pressure. Nonetheless, he says reform is essential.
