'The Kids,' Pulitzer Prize-Winning 'Wilmington's Lie,' 'Wake,' 'Bitchin': The Sound and Fury of Rick James'

Eddie Martin's new documentary “The Kids” looks back on one of the most iconic films of the 90s, Larry Clark’s “Kids." Co-producer, writer of the film, and one of “Kids” original subjects Hamilton Chango Harris joins us to discuss the documentary as part of our continuing coverage of films premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival. [REBROADCAST FROM JANUARY 28, 2020] Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Zucchino joins us to discuss his book, Wilmington's Lie: The Murderous Coup of 1898 and the Rise of White Supremacy, which was just awarded the 2021 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction. A new book combines memoir, graphic novel, and history to tell the story of one woman’s quest to uncover the truth about female-led slave revolts. Dr. Rebecca Hall is both the subject and the author of the book Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts, and she joins us to discuss. Kirkus calls the book “An urgent, brilliant work of historical excavation.” Premiering at Tribeca on June 15th as part of their Juneteenth programming, Sacha Jenkins’ new film “Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James” explores the artist's life and storied career. Jenkins, as well as producer and writer Steve Rivo join us to discuss the film.
