'500 Greatest Songs of All Time,' Daptone Records Turns 20, Adam Pendleton's New Exhibition, Rita Dove

For the first time in 17 years, Rolling Stone threw out their working list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and rebuilt the list from scratch. Rolling Stone reporter Jon Dolan joins us to discuss remaking the list, defend the rankings, and take calls from listeners on what they think are the greatest songs of all time. Founded in 2001, Daptone Records helped spur a modern soul revival with releases from artists like Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley. On October 1, in celebration of its 20th anniversary, the independent Brooklyn-based record label will release "The Daptone Super Soul Revue Live at the Apollo," a 3LP set and a 48-page booklet of photography. Daptone founders Gabriel Roth and Neal Sugarman join us to discuss. WNYC’s Jennifer Vanasco, who covers arts and culture, joins us to discuss what to do this weekend in her ongoing series, “The Get Out.” Artist Adam Pendleton joins us to discuss his solo show at the Museum of Modern Art, "Adam Pendleton: Who Is Queen?," which is on view from September 18 through January 30. The large-scale installation features Pendleton’s paintings, drawings, and other works that explore complex themes around identity through use of a wide range of materials and sources. Rita Dove, Pulitzer Prize Winner for Poetry and former Poet Laureate to the Library of Congress and the State of Virginia, joins us to discuss her newest collection of poems, Playlist for the Apocalypse.
