This months podcast, presented by MAS 2017 participants Shyamang Goswami and Jingyi Zhang takes a closer look at the traditional Chinese medicine technique of Cupping. Cupping is the term applied to a technique that uses small glass cups or bamboo jars as suction devices that are placed on the skin to disperse and break up stagnation and congestion by drawing congested blood, energy or other humors to the surface. There are many athletes who swear by its benefits like Andy Murray, Floyd Mayweather, Amir Khan who all have been seen with cupping marks. But the most famous athletes were Alexander Naddour and Michael Phelps at the Rio Olympics. Recent studies have shown cupping’s effectiveness in reducing pain intensity and providing positive short-term benefits.
