This case is the perfect example that the outside appearance doesn't exactly show you what the inside is capable of. Nannie doesn't look as terrifying as a man like Richard Ramirez, radiating evil, but on the inside, she is a dark and twisty mess. She had a very, very hard and abusive childhood so it is very hard to listen to her story and not feel some kind of sympathy for her. And that is okay! That is a normal, empathic human response. However, when we see her use those feelings and lash out and enact evil, then we can no longer feel sympathetic to her plights.
