One of them was a new member of the team who, just a couple weeks into the job, started demanding things we hadn’t agreed to. Give them raises over time. But get them to agree to all of this in advance, so you’re not dealing with unexpected demands later.Keep in mind when you hire someone you already know or someone who’s family, it can be hard to fire them if you need to.If someone just isn’t passionate about their position or they don’t seem fully invested, that can be a sign that it’s not going to work out long term. Have the “break up” sooner rather than later.In general, you should absolutely try to have conversations before you have conflicts.Ask questions. Dig deeper. Make sure you find out what’s really going on.Don’t buy people’s garbage. People will feed you garbage all the time, and sometimes it’s very believable.
